HISTORY OF WICKED UNSCRIPTED:

(as of July 2008)

Wicked Unscripted actually started years ago, back in 1999 when some friends in High School said something so funny we all nearly bust a gut. It was those dumb things you say and everyone laughs. I made a comment about how I wish we had images to go with the story. I was told “why don’t you just draw it”?

At the time I did, it was bad, it was stick figure-ish, it was corny, I have no idea what happened to the maybe 20 or 30 drawings that made up the first Wicked Unscripted.

Back then Ctl+Alt+Del [www.Ctrlaltdel-online.com] was brand new. Tim still lived on Cape and we talked on AIM a few times. He also encouraged me trying to do a comic even if it was just for myself. Again, I tried I lost the pages somewhere. Sucks too, some of it was funny.

Zoom ahead- 2007. At dinner with my friends Dan and Erik they both went on tirades and the waitress said someone should write this stuff down. I grabbed a napkin, snatched a pen and suddenly WU was re-born.

I loved The Devil’s Panties [link] and I thought “why not make another reality based web comic?” my friends are funny as hell, and besides I NEEDED a new creative outlet. I was desperate for one actually. So over coffee with Pete I pitched my idea and told him I had gotten really good feedback on my DevArt account (where WU was originally posted). He offered to gift me a website and work as my admin pro-bono, (as a way to make up for accidently breaking my heart a year before).

Thus www.wickedunscripted.com was born. Pete designed the original site in about an hour and a half one night and we went live. But as things happen, he eventually got so busy with work and life and such that no matter how many people bugged him (girlfriend included) he just didn’t have the time to update my site, my archives and everything else for me. Hence the first hiatus.

August 2007- Juli and Pete have now broken up, Juli has moved in with Justin, Lindsay and Alex and she has joined SoulGeek.com where she meets Mike. She shows people WU (including Jennie Breedan of The Devil’s Panties) and gets great feedback, people asking nay begging for more.  Mike let’s her know he’s a site admin for plenty of people and will do her site for free so long as she keeps the art coming.

DEAL!

Juli hands the site-duties of WU over to Mike Sorensen and he goes to freakin’ town re-vamping the whole look, feel and general coolness of the site. Juli had liked Pete’s design but Mike’s layout she felt touched closer to what she wanted. Mike got Juli’s art, and became a big fan of it. In fact, he’s one of her closest friends these days and a great big sounding board for “Hey! Mike! Hey! Is this funny?”.

Her roommate at the time, Ikkin wanted practice with Photoshop and Juli was getting sick of her handwriting filling in the speech bubbles. She thought it looked like crap. So Ikkin offered to do that. It wasn’t uniform but it worked for Juli and you could ACTUALLY READ THE COMIC!

Hiatus #2:

Tried as she might to get stuff done, updated and ready Juli fell behind due to college, illness, a relationship and of course working 2 jobs. She had to let WU slide for a while but kept writing idea’s in the infamous “big grey book that barley fits in a purse but is somehow convenient”. To date she has gone threw 2 of these books and the second one houses over 75 undrawn ideas, and counting.

She got cracking, she started to draw again, 12 comics done- no site updates. Why?

VISTA SUCKS $%^@! Actually, no the laptop she got for college decided “I don’t like this AC adapter I’m NOT going to work!” Frick!

Pete took pity on a PC-less Juli and let her barrow his laptop for some time. But, he needed it for work and took it back. ENTER PICKLES!

Hiatus #3:

Pickles, or Matt lent her an awesome lap top. Problem was, it ran on Linux. Linux is Juli’s preferred platform for an OS, but it doesn’t exactly agree with most programs used to “make” the comic, like her scanner.

Here comes Cilla and John. Cilla and John take on the duty of scanning for Juli so she can get the art done. Cilla even went back and re-photo shopped ALL of the archives so Juli had typed in text in every comic (has that even made it on the site yet?). But Cilla then left for boot camp. Pickles then offered to take over Cilla’s task.

“My site needs merch!” It was bound to happen, Juli said it, Mandi heard it. An hour later Juli had a WU store on Zazzel. Mandi has kept her word and runs the WU Merch shop. Juli says an idea, or Mandi pitches one and she approves and what do you know? New stuff for the geek-savvy to buy!

Pickles takes the laptop he loaned Juli back, to give to Cilla.  He loans her a desk top… it lasted 3 days before it committed seppuku. You’d think with all her “tech-support” buddies Juli would have gotten it fixed right? Well, she’s broke and they’re busy. So no.

And well… Pickles, still has yet to photo shop anything Juli has sent him, it’s been a month. So she went to John. “Pleeeeeease?” John agrees to help. She goes over to his place, they scan, he enters text and tadaaaah WU goes live again.

That is the story thus far.
